About Me

Simi Modupeore Raji (they/she) is a Nigerian-born, Bronx-raised playwright, poet, and storyteller whose work explores Blackness, queerness, mythology, and survival across time and space. Rooted in both West African traditions and the complexities of contemporary identity, their plays often blend realism with magical elements, examining how systems of power shape personal and collective legacies. Simi’s work has been staged by Lehman College and featured in a professional reading presented by PEN America and National Queer Theater.

As an immigrant and child of a single mother, Simi writes from the intersections of immigration, gender, and generational sacrifice. They are passionate about expanding the theatrical and literary canon to include stories that are often left untold.

They are currently developing a young adult fantasy novel inspired by Nigerian mythology and a play exploring race, legacy, and communal survival set in a world where Black people mysteriously die at 30.
